Restorative practices are predicated on safety first, followed by accountability and repairing harm, with the idea that a school system’s chief responsibility is to support the learning of its students, using incidents of conflict, harm and rule-breaking as opportunities for growth.

Restorative practices are most effective when they’re an integral part of a school’s culture – a culture based on high expectations, caring, and support for all. In this context, restorative practices aren’t used only to respond to conflict or disruptive, disrespectful, or harmful behavior.
